The Bioré® Skincare Story
Bioré®, pronounced “Bee-or-aye”, is a Japanese skincare brand owned by the Kao Corporation, a multinational company specialising in premium beauty brands.
The Bioré® name means –
‘Bio’ meaning life - and ‘Ore’ - conveying the sense of gold, the most precious of ores. The letters of the Bioré® name also has meaning - B (for beauty), I (intelligence), O (originality), R (reliability) and E (enrichment).
The initial launch product was a non-soap facial cleanser. Today Bioré® is the number one facial cleansing brand in Japan. It is also a household name in Asia, where it holds the number two facial cleansing position.
In Australia, Bioré® was launched in 1997, when the first-to-market Pore Perfect Deep Cleansing Strips were introduced - a white strip that is applied to the nose to clear out clogged pores. Media attention and consumer curiosity grew, and with this new and exciting innovation a new skincare category was born.
Having conquered ‘the pore’, Bioré® relaunched and re-focused in 2004/5 – seven years after the debut of the much-copied Pore Strip. Soon after, the brand also took aim at another widespread problem for women aged 18 to 40 - unwanted shine – and developed a full range of cleansers, toners and moisturisers to meet their needs.
